Boat Drivers Licence Requirements
In Queensland, a marine licence is required to operate a recreational boat which is powered by a motor greater than 4.5 kW (over 6 HP) and you must have a personal watercraft (PWC) licence to operate a personal watercraft.
To obtain a Queensland recreational marine driver licence you must:
-
be aged 16 years or older
-
successfully complete an approved BoatSafe training course
-
and obtain a life-time recreational marine driver licence from the Department of Transport.
ABC Australian Boating College courses are an approved Boatsafe training provider.
Courses are held each Saturday at Maroochy River Resort in the training room (numbers permitting). No prior boating experience necessary.
The course generally starts at 7am (summer) and 8am (winter). Duration depends on class size but will generally end between 2pm and 4pm.
To join a course, just call the office, book a suitable day, pay the course fee ($150 per licence) and turn up ready to start 10 mins before commencement time.
Many people book a weekend for the family at Maroochy River Resort & Bungalows whilst taking time to do the course. Call the office to book your weekend away.
